Dillard's partially reopens after man drives car into store wall

CLEARWATER, Florida -- One man's unsuccessful suicide attempt successfully brought business to a halt at a Bay area Dillard's store.

"I came to Dillard's, went to Macy's instead," says one shopper.

Dillard's customers found yellow crime scene tape blocking their entrance after a Clearwater man's failed suicide attempt left behind a large hole in the east wall of the Dillard's store at Countryside Mall.

Pier 60 Playground vote postponed again

Pier 60 Playground vote postponed again

Clearwater, Florida -- The city council Monday postponed a vote on whether to put a $440,000 sand castle-themed playground at Pier 60 Park.

The measure was scheduled to be heard at the council's workshop session, but City Manager Bill Horne said he had not yet been able to meet with members of the Clearwater Beach Association. The association wanted to discuss the project with the city before it came to a vote.

The measure is now scheduled for the council's next regular meeting, to be held on Thursday, May 16th and 6 p.m.

 

 

Puppy killed, others rescued in duplex fire

Clearwater, Florida -- A duplex fire killed a puppy on North Saturn Avenue in Clearwater Wednesday morning. That's near the intersection of Cleveland Street and South Keene Road.

Clearwater Fire Rescue says there were two adult dogs and five puppies in the home. The four surviving puppies have minor burn injuries and smoke inhalation.

The pups are five to six months old. The mother dog, which appears to be a lab, was unconscious and close to death until she rescuers gave her oxygen. She's expected to be OK.

During the month of August, $5 rabies vaccinations with the purchase of a license will be available for pets each Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. The adoption fee will be reduced to $25.

House fire starts with 8 dogs in the home

Clearwater, Florida -- Clearwater Fire and Rescue is investigating a fire at a home that had 8 dogs inside. 

The fire started in a bedroom in a duplex on N Saturn Ave. There were two adult dogs and 5 puppies in the house. 

A puppy was found dead at the scene due to smoke inhalation. Firefighters rescued the mother dog by administering oxygen with a pet mask although she is in need of more medical attention. The remaining 5 puppies appear to be alright and will all be transferred to Animal Services.

Car crashes into Dillard's at Westfield Countryside Mall

Clearwater, FL - Investigators say a man who drove his car into a Clearwater mall department store may have been trying to kill himself.

Clearwater Police and Fire Rescue got a call shortly after 2 a.m. Wednesday about a car that crashed into the Dillard's store at Westfield Countryside Mall. The crash subsequently started a fire in the east side of the building.

The driver was pulled from the vehicle and taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening burns and injuries.

45th annual Dine Out Day benefits youth programs

Pinellas County, Florida -- On Wednesday, May 15, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office -- along with the Pinellas County Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association -- is holding their 45th Annual Dine-Out Day.

During the fundraiser to benefit Pinellas Sheriff's youth programs, participating restaurants will accept Dine-Out Dollars in lieu of cash for meal payment and donate $2.50 for every $5.00 spent.
