Robber pistol whips, shoots man during mugging | Crime

Clearwater, Florida -- Clearwater Police have arrested a man wanted for pistol whipping and shooting a man during a mugging in the area of MLK Avenue and LaSalle Street.

Police say 26-year-old Preston Bell was the man responsible for the attack on Jacob Woods around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday. Woods was able to run to the 900 block of Engman Street where he reported the incident to police.

He was taken to a local hospital where his injuries are reported to be serious and non-life threatening.

Around 1 p.m., police received a tip that Bell was at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Fulton Street. A SWAT team responded and he was arrested without incident.
