Tai Chi presentation at Beach Library

Clearwater Beach, Florida - The art of Tai Chi will be demonstrated next month at the beach library.

Tai Chi master Bob Therriault will show how the practice, once considered only a martial art, is now used worldwide to reduce stress, improve general health and build strength through slow movements.

The session is scheduled for May 14th at 1:30 p.m. at the beach library, 69 Bay Esplanade.

Pinellas County, Florida -- The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County is looking for medical doctors, dentists and other health professionals who can give their time towards helping those in need.

Those who donate their time can earn CEUs and apply the hours they give to their license renewal fees. Hours are flexible and locations include health departments from Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg, community clinics of the volunteer's own practice.

Clearwater Beach, Florida -- Beach goers will get free sunscreen -- and a screening for skin cancer - at Pier 60 on Monday, May 6th.

WellSpring Oncology will be on hand from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. to provide information on prevention, early detection and treatment options or to arrange an interview about skin cancer.

Representatives will be giving away free sunscreen to beach patrons in an effort to raise awareness about the sun's harsh UV rays and how just one bad sunburn can raise the risk of melanoma.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Florida Hospital North Pinellas invites the community to join them for free skin cancer screenings in honor of “Melanoma  Monday” on May 6 from 9:00AM to 12:00PM.

World-renowned Surgical Oncologist, Douglas S. Reintgen, M.D., and Director of Oncology, Rosemary Giuliano, ARNP, will host the event at the Surgical Institute located on the hospital campus at 1501 Alternate 19 South, Suite T, Tarpon Springs.

Pinellas County, Florida -- For women who have no insurance and are too young for Medicare often cannot afford to get these lifesaving screenings like mamograms and cervical screenings.In Florida, there's a state resource that can provide these screenings at no cost for those who qualify.

Women between the ages of 50 and 64 who cannot afford mammograms and cervical cancer screenings can apply to receive these tests at no cost through the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (BCCEDP) at the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Pinellas County’s department of Health and Human Services will close its offices at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, for a department staff meeting. This includes the department’s four locations:

  • Clearwater, 2189 Cleveland St., Suite 230
  • Largo, 8751 Ulmerton Road
  • St. Petersburg, 647 First Ave. N.
  • Tarpon Springs, 301 S. Disston Ave.

All Health and Human Services offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 26, and resume normal business hours.

The Suncoast Health Council’s purpose is to “stimulate the establishment and continuous re-evaluation of community-oriented health goals.” They assess, plan and advise for the health needs in Pasco and Pinellas counties.
