Clearwater Airpark expansion approved | News

Clearwater, Florida -- In a unanimous vote, the Clearwater City Council gave final approval Thursday night to extend and rehabilitate the runway and taxiway at the Clearwater Airpark.

The council approved an agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation, to provide $1.5 million of the projected $1.875 million cost. The city would pay the remaining $375,000 from airpark earnings and the general fund.

Some nearby residents objected to extending the runway to the north by 800 feet because they felt there would be additional noise in their neighborhood. Supporters said the extension would increase safety.
