Clearwater, Florida -- In 1983, back when Gulf to Bay Boulevard was a two lane highway, the very first Hooters restaurant opens its doors in Clearwater.
The tongue in cheek name was just part of the concept created by co-founder Edward Droste and five friends.
"We wanted to bring something that combined neighborhood that we'd experienced in the midwest, with the beach. We wanted to bring that atmosphere with great food together and we had a hunch it might work and it certainly did," Droste told 10 News.
They never imagined the restaurant would grow into a "relatively famous" brand with 480 locations in 44 states and 27 countries.
On Monday, the Original Hooters will re-open to the public after undergoing a major renovation which will still feature parts of the original building, a MuSEEum of the company's history and an indoor/outdoor bar.
