Remembering Angelo Dundee
News

Clearwater, Florida - Hundreds of mourners gathered at the Countryside Christian Center on Friday, to remember the life and times of famed boxing trainer, Angelo Dundee.

He was remembered as one of the nicest guys in sports.  Friends and family remembered one of his favorite quotes:

"It doesn't cost anything to be nice to people."

Mr. Dundee trained the best and most popular boxer of all time, Muhammad Ali.  Ali attended the services, after being escorted into the Countryside Christian Center through a private entrance.  He sat in the front row, directly across from Mr. Dundee's casket.

The best of the boxing world, was there.

His joy about life, his enthusiasm for what he did, really made everybody around him feel good," said Top Rank Boxing's Bob Arum.   "And he contributed so much to the success of fighters like Ali, and Sugar Ray Leonard, and George Foreman... But he made all of our lives a lot better."

"He was a great locker room coach, and a great combat coach in the field," added former referee Brian Garry, who worked many of Angelo Dundee's fights. "He was like Knute Rockne... When it was close, or you were down 14, he could bring em back... Angie was always positive."

Angelo Dundee died of a heart attack last week.  He was 90 years old.
