Shooting in Clearwater ends in suspect's death | News

Clearwater, Florida -- The suspect involved in a shooting with police officers at an apartment complex in Clearwater was found dead by officers.

Clearwater Police say two officers were patrolling Palmetto Park Apartments Wednesday afternoon when they found man believed to wanted in another crime. 

When officers tried to make contact with him, he fled. During the chase, the man shot at officers multiple times. At least one of them returned fire, hitting him.

The man then went inside an apartment and barricaded himself inside. When officers felt it was safe to enter, they found him lying on the floor with the gun by his side. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect's identity or exact cause of death is not known at this time.
