Pinellas County, Florida -- Pinellas County Schools released the following News Briefs for the week of Nov. 5.
Buccaneers visit Northwest Elementary; School named an NFL PLAY 60 Super School
Buccaneers players will visit Northwest Elementary, 5601 22nd Ave North, St. Petersburg, on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. They will award the school a $10,000 NFL PLAY 60 health and wellness grant. Buccaneers players will speak to students about the importance of health and wellness, hard work and education. One of the main portions of the visit is the NFL PLAY 60 Keep Gym in School PE Class. Up to 50 students will participate in the PE Class that will follow the full-school assembly. The students will rotate through five PE stations.

The Great American Teach-In, part of Pinellas County Schools’ celebration of American Education Week, will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Curtis Fundamental Elementary and Thursday, Nov. 15 at schools throughout the district.

November is Parent Involvement in Education Month
Please consider letting your readers/viewers/listeners know that November is Parent Involvement in Education Month. During this month schools will provide information to parents on how they can stay involved in their child's education because there are numerous benefits to consistent parent involvement. When parents are engaged in their child's education they will see improved academic performance, higher attendance rates, improved behavior, and more.
Workshops scheduled on applying for magnet, fundamental and career academy programs
The district is holding three workshops in November to teach parents how to apply on behalf of their students for magnet, fundamental and career academy programs. All three workshops begin at 7 p.m. on the following dates and at the listed locations:
• Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Pinellas Park High, 6305 118th Ave. N, Largo
• Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Gibbs High, 850 34th St. S, St. Petersburg
• Thursday, Nov. 29, at Countryside High, 3000 State Road 580, Clearwater
Parents interested in these programs should also mark their calendars for upcoming Information Fairs that showcase magnet, fundamental and career academy programs. One of these fairs will showcase programs throughout the district. The other will showcase south county programs. These fairs give parents and prospective students a chance to talk with school representatives:
• Districtwide Information Fair — 9 a.m. to noon, Dec. 1, at Pinellas Park High
• South County Information Fair — 6 to 8 p.m., Dec. 4, at Gibbs High
