Pinellas County, Florida -- The Inmate Horticulture program at the Pinellas County Jail is a large plant and tree nursery accessible to the public. Inmates learn plant growing and landscaping skills. Citizens can purchase plants and trees at the complex during specified hours.

The Horticulture Program has been on site for inmates for several years and offers plant materials for sale to the public.

Pinellas County, Florida -- Pinellas County warns residents that contrary to recent news reports that a ban on credit card surcharges ended Jan. 27, 2013, Florida law continues to prohibit the practice.

A surcharge is the extra fee a merchant adds when purchasing goods or services by credit card.

Gateway Farmers Market to celebrate grand opening

Clearwater, Florida -- The grand opening of the Clearwater Gateway Farmers Market will be Saturday, Jan. 12 on the 1200 block of Cleveland Street near Missouri Ave.

The market will open at 9:30 a.m. and Clearwater Mayor George N. Cretekos will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony to launch the new market at 10:30 a.m.

Clearwater, Florida -- The Downtown Clearwater Evening Farmers Market will open on Friday, Jan. 4, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the 500 block of Cleveland Street. The market will operate during those hours on the first Friday of every month.

Products available for sale include gift items, pet food products, fresh seafood, and gourmet foods. The market is pet-friendly and handicap accessible. Limited space is available for prospective vendors.

Pinellas County offers Christmas tree recycling

Gulfport, Florida -- Pinellas County Communications tells us to recycle your Christmas tree so it can be processed into useful mulch. However, please remember to remove all decorations, including hooks, garland, tinsel and lights. 

Keep the tree loose, not in a bag or trash can. If you live in an apartment or condo, place your tree near the dumpster, without blocking access to it.
