Man impersonates being firefighter for free food, drinks

St. Petersburg, Florida -- A man was arrested at his Clearwater home Wednesday morning on charges he impersonated a firefighter so he could get free food and drinks at various locations, including All Children's Hospital.

St. Pete Police say 22-year-old Robert Spalla represented himself to employees at All Children's Hospital as a firefighter who has been with the St. Pete Fire Department for the past five years.

During their interactions with Spalla, hospital employees told police he would ask for special privileges such as food vouchers or gas cards.

Giant cigar sold to collector for $185,000

CLEARWATER, Florida (AP) - A giant cigar sitting in a Clearwater warehouse has been sold for $185,000.

The cigar is 19 feet long and three feet wide. It's covered in 16,000 wrapper leaves - enough to make 25,000 regular size cigars - and weighs 1,600 pounds.

Cops: Woman stabs man's tire with knife after crash

Clearwater, Florida -- A woman, hit by a truck while driving in Clearwater Tuesday morning, ended her day in jail after she reportedly lost her temper.

Clearwater Police say around 9:40 this morning Angelo Yasparro, 42, was driving his 2000 Dodge pickup truck west in the left turn lane on Court Street, just west of Osceola Avenue. He then decided to change lanes from the left turn lane into the westbound through lane to go towards Clearwater Beach and that's when he hit Theresa Rubalcava's 2000 Chevy Astro van.

Cops: Man tries to steal generator from triathlon event

Clearwater, Florida -- On Sunday, Clearwater Police arrested a man who allegedly tried to steal a generator from a triathlon event.

Police say a witness confronted 43-year-old Christopher Fusco after they saw him load a 3000-watt Honda Generator being used at the TriRock Triathlon event into the trunk of his car. Fusco tried to tell the witness that it was his, but when he was challenged again, Fusco removed the generator from his trunk and fled the scene.

Man steals toilet pipes from library

Clearwater, Florida -- Clearwater Police have arrested a man responsible for stealing toilet pipes from a local library.

Police say on Oct. 11, Herman Acosta stole two toilet pipes, along with the connecting values, totaling $1,500 from the men's restroom at Clearwater Main Library. He then sold them for scrap metal.

Acosta, 43, was arrested at his home and charged with Grand Theft.
